The Triangle Martial Arts Academy offers a broad range of martial art classes for the entire family. We teach traditional and Olympic-style taekwondo and base our teaching methods on the latest research in sports medicine, exercise science, and sports psychology.
The curriculum is well-structured and balanced, but it is personal goal-driven rather than black belt-driven. A great deal of attention is given to individual students to make sure they reach their goals in a timely fashion but most importantly that they advance in rank and sport without injury.
We are a sister school of United Taekwondo Academy ran by Master Barry Partridge in Winston-Salem (www.unitedtkd.com).

I have trained in Taekwondo for five years and under many different instructors. Master Agans stands out as one of the most talented, knowledgeable, and effective teachers that I have trained under. In particular, I enjoyed his focus on endurance, flexibility, and core strength. Even more importantly, his emphasis on how to improve our basic fundamental movements in the art always left me with a lot to think about and a desire to improve. I left every one of his classes feeling I had learned an enormous amount and I was always eager to find more time to train with him. I would highly recommend him to anyone at ANY level of their training!

I have trained in the martial arts for almost 5 years. I began training with my oldest son who was 6 at that time. My younger son began training a few years later at the age of 4. For the majority of those years, the 3 of us were training with Master Agans in Carrboro, NC. I have grown tremendously in the art under Master Agans guidance, but the most wonderful part of training with Master Agans has been watching my 2 boys grow up on the mat and learn from him. Master Agans encouraged my children to always do their best, to be confident in their abilities, to be respectful of everyone in their life including family members, teachers, and friends, to strive to always kick higher, run faster, do more pushups, to persevere when things are difficult, and to be disciplined and always finish what they start on and off the mat. While teaching all these valuable life lessons, Master Agans also made the classes fun, and the boys always wanted to come back for more. My children and I miss training with Master Agans, but we are thrilled that he has opened his own school in another town. If you are looking for a martial arts school where your kids will love to train (and maybe you will love to train with them!), Triangle Martial Arts Academy is the school for you!

I have trained for four years at Chapel Hill-Carroboro Taekwondo, where Master Agans has been teaching before coming to Triangle Martial Arts Academy. His classes have always been ones I looked forward to – in fact, I arranged my training schedule so that I’d be able to attend his classes regularly.
There are several aspects of his classes which have made them so appealing. First is the variety he brings to classes: in addition to the basic skills of Taekwondo, his classes include strength training, flexibility, and mental focus. I never knew for certain what each class might bring, but only that I’d get something out of it. The second is the way he teaches the core Taekwondo skills. He’s helped me realize that no matter how many times I’ve done a specific move, I can always improve. And he’s managed to do this all the while in a positive and supportive way, without making me feel bad about myself or what I could do. And finally, after every single one of his classes I believe I’ve learned something as well as gotten an excellent workout.
By far my best memory of training with Master Agans has been at an intensive training camp he ran at the beach two years ago. It was my first time taking such a camp, and I was really beginning to drag as the camp wore on. But he inspired me to find the confidence – and from that, the energy – to not just complete the camp, but to complete it with strength. To this day, when I say “Always finish what you start”, the image of Master Agans on the beach springs to my mind, reminding me that I can do it! This kind of confidence has helped me not just in martial arts training, but elsewhere in life as well.
I’ve been very pleased to train under Master Agans and would recommend his classes to anyone.

Master Agans is not only a talented martial artist, but a wonderful human being. He has touched many of those of us who have trained with him over the years. If you have a desire to learn about the art of TaeKwonDo, please take advantage of the opportunity to train with Master Agans.

I have trained in Taekwondo at schools in Indiana, North Carolina and South Carolina for twelve years. I have specifically trained with and under Master Robert Agans in the RDU area for over eight years. In all my years of exposure to and training in the martial arts, Master Agans has been the most knowledgeable and effective master instructor. He is a very passionate and charismatic individual, who is eager to share his love of and expertise in the martial arts. Master Agans’ well-structured and balanced curriculum—encapsulating mind, body and spirit—sets him apart from other martial art experts. He incorporates strengthening exercises, such as core performance/total body fitness, into his lessons, which has personally improved my overall fitness.
On a more personal note, Master Agans has a played an important role in who I am today. He believed in me and pushed me when I needed it the most. There was a time in my life when I did not believe in myself. I did not believe I had anything to offer. Today, I am a more confident and determined woman than I was when I was in my twenties.
In fact, thanks to Master Agans persistence, advice and training program, I have been able to compete in triathlons and participate in running and bicycling races. Without determination and confidence, I could not done these things today. I am very fortunate to have Master Agans in my life. I look forward to having my children train under him some day.
